Mihai Calin Bica
Roma Support Group
Mihai Calin Bica is a bi-lingual Romanian Roma advocate and activist. He qualified as a social worker in July 2009, and has graduated from the West University Timisoara, Sociology and Psychology Faculty, Social Work department.
Between 2008 and 2011, Mihai worked for FEMROM in Romania, he coordinated a regional project, training and supporting Roma women and young people in accessing the formal employment market. Between 2010 and 2011, Mihai worked as a human rights monitor for the European Roma Rights Centre in Budapest.
Since October 2016, Mihai has been working for the Roma Support Group as a Roma Campaigning and Advocacy Worker. Through this project Mihai is promoting social justice and trying to address disadvantage experienced by Roma refugees and migrants in the UK. In his role Mihai is recruiting, supporting and training Roma advocates, facilitating Roma-led peer advocacy; facilitating the Roma Refugee and Migrant Forum (RRMF) in London; creating opportunities for Roma advocates to meet with local authorities, services and policy makers to ensure that Roma voices are publicly both spoken and heard; providing statutory and non-statutory agencies with information about the needs of Roma migrants based on evidence from RRMF, group meetings and our casework; Delivering Roma Culture Awareness training sessions for professionals and workshops for schools.
