Working with people with entrenched difficulties, who may have survived multiple traumas, (some of which, like child
removal, may have occurred through contact with professionals), can feel stuck.
How can we support someone who says they want to change, but when the time for change comes, they disengage?
How can we challenge someone who may give a catastrophic response?
How can we create safe enough spaces that someone may feel ok to develop with us and open up to new skills and
possibilities?
How can we set boundaries without shaming?
How can we support someone who says they want to change, but doesn’t – or even disengages from us when the time for change comes?
How can we begin to treat relational challenges and breaks as useful spaces to nurture change and mutual learning?
